One in six South Australian young people have experienced homelessnesss, according to a Mission Australia report – with the situation expected to worsen due to the pandemic’s economic impact.
A new youth homelessness report released today by Mission Australia reveals one in six Australians aged 15-19 has experienced homelessness at least once, with or without their families. This includes spending time without a fixed address, living in a refuge or transitional accommodation, and couch surfing.

Speaking on Youth Homelessness Matters Day, National Children’s Commissioner Megan Mitchell cited Census figures that show Australia has 28,756 children and young people are homeless, and 17,842 of these are under 12 years of age.
