The nineteenth century was a time for social reform in the United States. Some historians have even labeled the period from 1830 to 1850 as the “Age of Reform.” Women, in particular, played a major role in these changes. Key movements of the time fought for women’s suffrage, limits on child labour, abolition, temperance, and prison reform. From National Geographic.

The Encyclopædia Britannica is a general knowledge English-language encyclopaedia. Revolutions of 1848, series of republican revolts against European monarchies, beginning in Sicily and spreading to France, Germany, Italy, and the Austrian Empire. They all ended in failure and repression and were followed by widespread disillusionment among liberals.
