Renaissance Art Yr 8: Overview of the Renaissance

This project is a collaboration between the National Gallery of Art and Oxford University Press’s acclaimed Grove Art Online. It was made possible through the generous support of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation and developed by Sandbox Studios.

This PBS site explores the wave of artistic and cultural innovation that changed medieval society and brought European culture into a new era: the Renaissance. Topics include art, politics, religion and science and architecture.

This history of the Renaissance explains how it began with a renewed interest in classical culture, a movement in which Petrarch was a leading figure and proponent of humanism, the admiration for the finest achievements of the human race.
