Refine your results

Refining your search helps to reduce the number of results and make them more relevant.

Filter your search results

Select the All filters button to find all the available filters you can use to refine your search.

You can filter searches based on subject, date, source type, language, content provider, and more.

Make sure to have the Available with Pymble filter selected to find resources you can access through the Library.

Of the many databases feeding into Library MultiSearch, there are open access databases with some non-English language resources. Select the english filter under Language to quickly remove non-English results from your search.

Peer review - what is it?

Peer review refers to a publication process where a researcher's article is rigorously vetted by independent experts before it is published in a peer reviewed journal. These experts work in the same research area as the author, and are tasked to evaluate the submitted article for quality and significance of research.

Use the Peer reviewed filter to limit search results to content published in peer-reviewed journals.

Not every article published in a peer-reviewed journal is a peer-reviewed article. Shorter pieces, such as book reviews and editorials, are often not peer reviewed but could still appear in your search results. This is because databases sometimes assign the status of "peer-reviewed" at the journal level, not the article level.

Keep in mind that there are lots of scholarly resources that are not published in peer-reviewed journals, such as reports by government agencies and books. Using the Peer reviewed filter could potentially exclude useful sources from your search.
