What is the 3 Minute Sokratis competition? Universities hold an international competition called ‘3 Minute Thesis’. The competition started at the University of Queensland 16 years ago.
“The idea for 3MT came about at a time when the state of Queensland was suffering severe drought. To conserve water, residents were encouraged to time their showers, and many people had a three minute egg timer fixed to the wall in their bathroom. The then Dean of the Graduate School, Emeritus Professor Alan Lawson, put two and two together and the idea for the 3MT competition was born”.

The aim is to present your entire thesis (which is a large essay of 90,000 words) in only 3 minutes using one slide. It helps researchers be very succinct and to speak in plain English so a wide audience can understand the research.

What does Pymble’s version entail? Sokratis students have the option of competing in this competition. Students can prepare one slide (a section of your poster would work well) and a speech not longer than 3 minutes.
When: It will be held on October 21st, in Conde Library.
